The spread of topics today were mainly about Trump’s visit to India. The second topic that was widespread through the different media outlets was Trump’s knowledge about the CoronaVirus. The headlines told me that Trump took his kids with him to India and people on twitter were not happy to hear the trip was paid for with tax dollars. The headlines also told me I should not trust what Trump tells us regarding the CoronaVirus.
The article, “Americans Can’t Figure Out What Ivanka Trump Is Doing In India focused on the reason for Trump being in India” which was to talk about “A $3 billion arms deal with the nation and a developing trade agreement.” We then were reminded that twitter was furious and people were tweeting to Ivanka Trump things. On twitter user, Denise Haynes commented, “So glad our tax dollars could fund your sightseeing trip. Millions of Americans will never be able to afford a trip like that, but so happy you’re enjoying yourself at our expense.” This article included multiple links to angry twitter users and details about the Trump family’s business in India. The author of the article, Mary Papenfuss, shaded the family and said, “Unlike other presidents, Trump — and his family — did not divest from his businesses when he moved into the White House.”
The second article is called, “You might not want to rely on Trump for information about the risk of coronavirus.” This article started with statistics about the flu and how Trump originally wanted to modernize the flu vaccine and how he failed to even tweet to remind people to get the flu shot. Then the article got into how Trump is not taking the CoronaVirus seriously enough even after it has shut down a huge part of China.
Both of these articles followed the inverted pyramid with the most flashy information at the top and deeper content and more refined information at the bottom. Many statistics and surveys were used as evidence at the end of the article.
