News Today 2-26-2020

The spread of topics today were about how the government dealt with the Ebola crisis compared to how Trump is not doing things in a similar way and an anti-lynching bill being passed. The headlines are, “Analysis: The government had a model for handling Ebola. Trump has ditched it” analysis by John Harwood, CNN and “House Passes Anti-Lynching Bill After 120 Years of Failure” NYT – Politics by Jacey Fortin. They tell us that Trump seems to not be taking the health crisis’ seriously which I am guessing has something to do with the CoronaVirus again similar to yesterday’s posting and a bill was passed that was unexpected but obvious.

As I suspected, the first article did have to do with the CoronaVirus. It started out talking about the effect it had on the economy and how this should show the seriousness of the crisis. The author called out Trump for saying the media is making the virus look worse than it actually even though it is almost in pandemic status. Obama was brought into the conversation on how he appropriately listened to professional advice when Ebola was a national crisis. Then the article went into talking about Trump’s impeachment and how he distances himself when problems arise.

The second article is about how the delay of the law making lynching a federal crime is symbolic and has been thrown out of the courtroom time and time again. Finally, this law has made it through the house and is now on its way to the oval office. Lynching has been linked to white supremacy due to the fact many white men who performed the lynchings got acquitted by a white jury. The article finishes by addressing the public who say it is not relevant anymore and respond by saying how it is important to acknowledge wrong doings and try to do the right thing now. These articles follow the hourglass story structure with the specific information in the middle but ending with the same information as the beginning.
