First Look At Podcasts

Flushing It Out with Samantha Spittle: Episode 1 – Rebecca Burtram: You are enough!
This was a Comedy Podcast hosted by Samantha Spittle who is a family friend of mine. This was her first podcast she posted and I stayed engaged the entire time with her funny stories and life lessons that come out of them. I listened to this podcast on my phone with headphones sitting at my desk. She has an easy to navigate website with all her podcasts summarized and organized. Her podcast started out with an intro of her podcast which I quickly recognized the voice as her husband, Jeremy. I thought this was a nice touch as to show how her podcast is personalized and grounded. Following this intro was a pleasant jingle leading to the start of her podcast. Over the course of her first podcast she covered embarrassing moments, spirituality, and life lessons. The format was more of a chat between friends with following 3 easy steps of life. A special guest, Rebecca Burtram was chatting with her the entire episode and brought very helpful stories and comments to the podcast. There were few transitions the majority in the beginning but the lack of transitions brought more to the podcast being transparent. This podcast made me see the real difference between radio and podcasts because radio feels quick and advertised and podcasts seem personal and relaxed

JRE #1425 – GARRETT REISMAN
This podcast is hosted by Joe Rogan who worked backstage for the UFC as an interviewer for after the fights. He now is a comedian and podcast host. There was a special guest, Garrett Reisman, a former NASA Astronaut. Rogan’s website had many options such as tour tickets, a shop, podcasts, and comedy specials. Overall, listening to the podcast it was very interesting to hear Rogan ask interesting questions to the guest that kept me engaged the entire time. I listened to this podcast in my room at my desk on my phone. I got access to this podcast on Youtube, and I actually got to watch them talk to each other as well as listen. This extra feature was nice because they showed actual pictures of Reisman in space which added immensely to the podcast. This podcast covered space stories and training from the special guest. The podcast was one recording with no editing transitions which I enjoyed because it felt like it was an unfiltered conversation between two guys sharing awesome and educational stories. Interestingly enough, I listened to these podcasts for a longer time than I am willing to watch any Youtube video or read an article.

This is Love By Criminal this specifically a story told by David Alexander and it was hosted by Phoebe Judge. This podcast was different from the other two I listened to because it was scripted and edited. It sounds like I am listening to an audiobook but has very nice music and cuts to reenactments of people acting the story he is telling out. The website is specifically podcast links and where to support the podcast and follow them on all the social media. The host was very good at asking the right questions to get the most out of the background of the story. The podcast was talking about a love story soley.

Feedly Feed!

The final Feedly review!

The spread of topics today were very similar to the last 2 days, including the CoronaVirus and Trump. The headlines were, “Trump Touts Border Wall In Face Of Coronavirus: ‘Border Security Is Health Security” by Sarah Ruiz-Grossman HuffingtonPost and “Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue calls coronavirus a ‘pandemic’” by Betsy Klein, Dan Merica, Jason Hoffman and Kaitlan Collins, CNN. These headlines told me that the CoronaVirus is definitely a serious issue that many Americans care about and the media outlets believe is a VERY pressing matter that is not being handled well by the President.
The first article focuses on President Trump’s speech he gave at a rally where he speaks about the negative response the media has given him about the way he is dealing with the disease. Trump assured the people that he is taking the issue seriously and used this to bring up how his wall is important in health safety as well. The article also acknowledged Trump’s comment about how the democratic sided media is using the CoronaVirus as a hoax in order to attack his political game. The article ended talking about how the economy is taking a major hit in the stock market and Trump’s was not concerned in the slightest.
The second article was a review about Sonny Perdue’s speaking to farmers at the Commodity Classic conference in San Antonio. Sonny used the term Pandemic to describe the outbreak and CNN was sure to recognize the term had not been used by the White House yet. This was worth reporting because Mike Pence is supposed to clear all information being put out about the Virus. Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the World Health Organization’s Health Emergencies Programme commented how a pandemic is a serious term used when the majority of the population is expected to get the disease and he claims the numbers do not support that conclusion. These articles follow the inverted pyramid which summarized the main points in the beginning and had more refined supporting details in the end.

CNU vs Salisbury

9:00 p.m. FINAL UPDATE The past 2 years, the games have come close with only a few points between the teams. This year the game is hosted by CNU who is looking to keep their title after winning the 3 conference championships. CNU has a history of 24-12 all-time against Salisbury. The captains have been undefeated against Salisbury for 9 games since 2016. Overall, there have been 4 notable scorers throughout the half being #55, #21, and #15. The best part was #15 SONDRA FAN flying into the fan section making everyone go crazy. Latest score 39-33

8:49 p.m. The last update before the half. Score is 28-25 and our screaming fan is still screaming. The coach has relaxed a little and looks like he is concluding how to lead his team into the second half. There have been 4 notable scorers throughout the half being #55, #21, and #15. CNU has fouled 3 times in the last 2 minutes and the score is now 30-29.

8:44 p.m. 5 Minutes left in the half and I have been hearing a consistent scream from the audience and finally figured out it was a girl in the PEP band. It is very distracting so I guess she is getting the reaction from the other team as well? On that note while the media timeout is happening, there are a lot of supporting roles in this event such as 3 different professional photographers, a panel of 3/4 stat trackers, and a larger panel of 10 clock runners and media.

8:39 p.m. The Captains are keeping their spirits high through this mildly aggressive game. I sense a small bias with the refs as they are very quick to call a foul on CNU. The score is 20-18 with time split evenly on each half of the court.

8:34 p.m. 1 minute left in the quarter and the score is 19-16. Salisbury is keeping up with the Captains speed but can we continue the intensity in the 2nd. The CNU cheerleading team takes the court and performs a routine to Poker Face by Lady Gaga as the dance team dances along on the side of the court nearest to the student section.

8:29 p.m. A notable player is #55 NATALIE TERWILLIGER, Sophomore, who played in 30 games during her first year, averaging 14.2 minutes per game she has already scored 4 out of the 16 points in the first quarter.

8:24 p.m. A brief intermission was given by the CNU dance team as Salisbury is given a free through after CNU fouled by running through a screen. Score update: 12-13. The Coach, BILL BRODERICK is very invested in this game, coaching his team on the court.

8:19 p.m. CNU #15 SONDRA FAN made the fans go crazy after a breakaway down the court and her momentum flew her into the fan section. Sondra is a sophomore who got Capital Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year last year and is a top player

8:14 p.m Salisbury scored off of a layup. 0-2 Shortly after CNU #21 BAILEY HODGES scored a 3 pointer making the score 3-2.

8:11 Salisbury wins the tip off but CNU quickly rebounds the ball and heads down the court. #2 JULIA NG took the first shot but missed.

8:00 p.m. As the game approaches, spirits are high as CNU prepares to defend their home court. The PEP band was eager to intimidate the other team by playing the CNU fight song as out Women’s Basketball team runs out out of the locker room. The CNU acapella group “Pearls” beautifully perform the National Anthem to start the event off.

First Live Tweeting Experience

I live tweeted episode 9 of The Bachelor. It was a very intense experience and I was very invested after only a few minutes of watching the episode. Usually, I do not mind watching bits and pieces of the Bachelor and Bachelorette but I was scared to miss anything! After doing this project, I will definitely be watching the rest of this season and continue to follow the Bachelor Nation. The best part of this experience was The Bachelor twitter making Gifs seconds after they aired and reading other tweets using #TheBachelor. Overall, this was a pleasant experience that I would do again!

How to actually get followers to buy your product!

The younger generation now is raising their expectations of brands to not have a 1000% markup if the quality of the product is not to par. This could change the industry of makeup in ways similar to how many consumers only buy cruelty free and vegan products. Consumers now have the ability to demand financial statements to eliminate high end brands from charging obscene amounts of money when the quality is not extremely high.
